On my race calendar I have key races and this would normally be one of them. The opportunity to ride completely traffic-free around Dorney Lake is unbelievable and I love this course.
I was chatting to a friend last week about doing the event and she asked me why I would enter a Super Series knowing my run was not up to scratch and put myself under pressure.
“You can’t always control the circumstances, but you can control how you respond to the challenge”
I wanted to take part today because it was a draft legal race and I wanted to see how my bike went.
My race plan for today was all about my bike.
Race morning and it was clear sky and the forecast was good apart from the strong wind. Not a recipe for a PB but I thought to myself I was still going to give it my best.
I got out the water feeling like I had done okay. The bike course is pretty straightforward 21.2km in length and four loops in total. I didn’t get in to the pack at first so I worked hard on the bike and felt quite strong. I started moving up the field and felt good and that I was pulling back places and time was good motivation.
Onto the run and I felt pretty slow but relaxed wasn’t to bothered about my run or what time I got. My running is not consistent at the moment and I lost time as I had expected. I was at least 2 minutes of my preferred time. But I have already started to set myself new goals for 2017.
That is why I am excited for the cold, dark and miserable weather to return. The dark nights means winter training and that is what I am really looking forward to some consistent training on my swimming and running again.
The atmosphere was buzzing here today and everyone was lining the route. I had a great ride and delighted with my performance, I was well pleased with that. I couldn’t be happier!
My Personal Best Time For The Course: 37:02 (21.2km)
